The voice that answered said, “Hello, can I help you?”
Then I asked him if he’d call you to the phone
He said, “Not right now, I think she’s busy,
Who’s calling and I'll tell her when she's done.”

That’s the same voice that answers every Sunday
If I call again I’ll get a busy line
As teardrops fall I recall all the fun days
When the voice that answered used to be mine

I know tonight she’ll be working in that barroom
Serving wine and beer till closing time
When early morning memories make me call her
Then a voice will say, “Hello, who’s on the line?”

That’s the same voice that answers every Sunday
