The Night Café

The clock says twelve-fifteen above the door behind the bar
Flowers in a vase stand next to bottles where they are
By the billiard table I can see him look my way
Here where souls have been forgotten in the night café
The yellow glow of ceiling lamps reflect upon the floor
Bathed in green the shadows fade away to nothing more
Figures in this hall of dreams like silhouettes display
I'm looking for a waiter in the lonely night café
The power of the darkness here can drive you to a crime
Can drive you straight to ruin or drive you out of your mind
There is no rhyme nor reason, here the borderline is gray
That's why we all have gathered at the lonely night café
Slumped across the tables where they try to hide their eyes
Someone that you met before but fail to recognize
Walls of red like hearts that bled, a love that lost its way
Waiting for the answer in the lonely night café
The doorway draped behind the bar's the only one you see
The entrance or the exit or the same—eternity
I thought I wouldn't be here long, just for the holiday
But something keeps me lingering here at the night café
The power of the darkness here can drive you to a crime
Can drive you straight to ruin or drive you out of your mind
There is no rhyme nor reason, here the borderline is gray
That's why we all have gathered at the lonely night café
