Keep Me and Never Go Broke

My dad used to keep one in his pocket
That old horseshoe and wishbone thing
With a penny in the middle and some writing on the back
That said good luck it would bring
Then over on the other side another line was printed
A bona fide guarantee
That the bearer of this little humble piece of metal
Would never on welfare be
It said:
Keep me and never go broke
You know I'll take care of you
Take this chance, get a lucky stroke
Keep me and never go broke
So it passed to me and I kept that talisman
In my own pocket for years
Then one fine day, there in my way
A stroke of good fortune appears
So I got to thinkin' she could be the one
And it turned out she was thinkin the same
Then I thought about that little trinket I held to
And I offered her its claim
I said:
Keep me and never go broke
You know I'll take care of you
Take this chance, get a lucky stroke
Keep me and never go broke
